My Neighbor's Garden

Contact: mngarden@zarephath.org

My Neighbor's Garden has been created to give children and adults the opportunity to reconnect with Creation through organic, sustainable agriculture. The gardening methods used require minimal space, equipment and labor, so it's ideal for ANYONE -- including low-income families and mission sites around the world. MNGarden relaunched in the Spring of 2011 in a plot at the Community Garden at Duke in Hillsborough, Somerset County. My Neighbor's Pantry and their clients will be the beneficiary of all of the produce grown on our plot. We haold monthly garden classes at My Nieghbor's Ministry to teach people how to garden at home or at a community garden. For 2012, we are looking to create a team to launch a community garden at Zarephath. Further into the future, we hope to provide "Wild Things" summer camps, training for area residents as well as experienced teams sent out to India, Africa, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. (Hey, you can't accomplish big things without first having big dreams, right?!)

My Neighbor's Pantry

Zarephath Christian Church collects shelf-stable food items on a regular basis. Food is distributed to those who come to us with a need as well as to the young men who join us for Urban Impact each month. Our goal is to provide higher quality and healthier food items. We're rallying friends and families to fill a bag for Urban Impact. One weekend each month, 100 young men join us on the Zarephath campus from New Brunswick, Camden, the Bronx, Brooklyn & Queens. (See the Urban Impact link for more information.) We to show Jesus' love in a tangible way to the boys and their families by send each young man home with some food to share with his family. Here's a list of the items we're asking for to fill each bag:

1 pkg raisins or applesauce
1 bag (2 lbs. ) whole grain rice
1 box old fashioned oats (not instant)
1 jar tomato sauce
1 can beans or dried bean soup mix
2 cans soup
3 cans tuna or chicken
1 lb. pasta

You can drop your bag off at the ministry center during our open hours (see directions and hours above) or place it in the bin in the hallway of the main chapel.

My Neighbor's Closet

The clothing thrift shop in My Neighbor's Ministry Center is focused on GREEN!

GREEN SAVINGS! Everything at the Closet is priced to stretch your budget. We carry beautiful selection of brand name clothing from Infant to Plus Sizes. The bargains abound and many of our shoppers can't believe the prices. Bring in some of your high quality, gently worn or never worn items and we will give you a coupon for 50% off your next purchase!

GREEN SHOPPING! All of our clothing is recycled which helps our planet and our neighborhood. By reusing gently used or reselling many brand name clothing items that are brand new, we are keeping tons of waste from the landfills. This is environmentally sustainable shopping that is good for the earth and your conscience.

GREAT CAUSE! We make clothing available to our neighbors at prices that help them to maintain a budget in these hard times. The proceeds of the clothing sales are used to help fund our food pantry and other outreach ministries to those who are struggling the most in this economy. Let your shopping have an impact. Shop My Neighbor's Closet!
